A Boris Red Lightsaber

On a down day between projects, Ryan challenged me to a duel.  Well, not quite a duel, per se, but he challenged me nonetheless.  “Make a lightsaber,” he said.  Surprisingly, though I am clearly a nerdy dude—and member of the Star Wars generation—I had never attempted the lightsaber effect.

Naturally, there are a zillion methods and tutorials around for creating the lightsaber effect.  However, as is often the case, not many people talk about using Boris Red to create the effect.  So, I thought I would outline my method using Boris Red 4.  (Clicking on any of the images below will load a larger, often more detailed, version.) Who writes TV shows?

Ever wonder how a TV show is written? Well, just ten years ago that answer would have been easy: A TV show was written by a “writer.”  Seems pretty obvious doesn’t it. Well, answering that question in today’s post-production world is not so easy. Oh, sure, some shows are still written by a writer sitting behind a keyboard, but nowadays, more and more TV shows are written in the edit bay, usually by the editor.
